THE BROW HAUS · PRE-SERVICE
Before Your Lip Blushing
How to prepare, what to avoid, and what to bring to your lip blushing appointment.
A little preparation goes a long way
Healthy, comfortable skin gives us the best starting point. Please tell us about medications, allergies, medical conditions, recent treatments, and any existing cosmetic tattoo before your appointment. Never stop or change prescribed medication to prepare for this service—ask your prescriber and let your artist know.
Your preparation timeline
Tell us about previous lip tattooing, filler, allergies, medications, and any history of cold sores—even if the last outbreak was years ago.
In the weeks before
Check with us before booking lip filler, dental work, laser, peels, or other treatments around your mouth. Wait until the area has recovered and your provider and artist agree on suitable timing.
In the days before
Use a plain, familiar lip balm and stay hydrated. Lips should feel soft and comfortable, not cracked, peeling, or sore. Do not scrub or pick dry skin.
The day before
Keep products simple, avoid alcohol, and get a good night’s sleep. Plan meals and activities around the early healing period.
What to avoid
Alcohol and arriving under the influence
Avoid alcohol the day before and on appointment day. Arrive sober and able to give informed consent.
Sunburn, tanning, and irritated skin
Protect the treatment area from sun exposure. We cannot work over sunburned, broken, inflamed, or infected skin.
New skincare and aggressive exfoliation
Keep your routine gentle. Avoid introducing products that could cause irritation before your appointment.
Caffeine and blood-thinner precautions
No caffeine before your appointment on appointment day, including coffee, energy drinks, and caffeinated tea. Avoid non-essential, over-the-counter aspirin or ibuprofen before your appointment unless your medical provider advises otherwise; they can increase bleeding. If you take prescribed blood thinners or medically recommended aspirin, contact your prescriber and let us know before your visit. Never stop, skip, or change prescribed medication on your own; we may need to reschedule.
Lip scrubs, plumpers, and irritating products
Do not try to force peeling skin off. Avoid products that cause tingling, burning, or irritation before your visit.
Arriving with cracked lips or a cold sore
Contact us before coming in if you have tingling, blisters, open cracks, significant peeling, or soreness. We may need to reschedule until fully healed.
Cold sores: plan ahead
Lip tattooing can trigger a cold sore outbreak. If you have ever had a cold sore, contact your medical provider well before your appointment to discuss whether prescription antiviral prevention is appropriate. Only your prescriber can choose the medication, dose, and schedule. Follow their directions exactly and tell your artist about the plan. Do not attend with an active cold sore or early tingling symptoms—contact us to reschedule.
On appointment day
Eat a normal meal and drink water before you arrive. Bring water and plan easy, comfortable food for afterward.
Arrive with clean lips, without lipstick, gloss, or plumper. Bring a favorite everyday lip color or reference photos to discuss.
Bring a list of medications, supplements, allergies, and any relevant medical history.
If your provider prescribed an antiviral, follow their instructions. Do not add or change medication on your own.
Allow the time in your booking confirmation for consultation, color selection, mapping, and treatment.
What to expect at your visit
We will review your history, assess your lips, and discuss your goals and color preferences. Your artist will agree on the outline and color with you before treatment. Lip blushing enhances your lips; it does not add volume or replace filler. We may recommend postponement if your lips are not ready for treatment.
Contact us before you come in
Reply to your appointment text before your visit if you have an active infection, a rash or broken skin in the treatment area, recent surgery, or a condition that affects healing. Tell us if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, use isotretinoin, take blood thinners or immune-suppressing medicines, have diabetes, or have a history of keloid scars. We may need to postpone or ask you to discuss suitability with your medical provider. This guide is not medical clearance.
Plan ahead for healing
Fresh lip color can look brighter and darker than the healed result, and swelling is common early on. Read the lip aftercare guide before your visit so you can plan balm, food, drinks, and downtime.
